Remember that old adage I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet? This is really so, that we whine and moan about our supposed misfortunes – until we come across people with far greater misfortunes than ours. It is inspiring to come across stories where people have overcome tremendous odds to embrace life and all its possibilities. Stories of this 77-year-old man with cancer who ice skates and this young woman who does acrobatic dancing without hands and with a prosthetic leg are precisely this.
Rebekah Bastian shared this video of her father who is 77 and has stage 4 prostate cancer. A lot of people found this video hugely inspiring and it went viral.
Clearly, this is one 77 year old who hasn’t lost his sense of humour.
Courage in the face of adversity is inspiring.
It is obvious that this is a woman who is very proud of her father, his composure in the face of great odds and this attitude to life.
The tweeple were very appreciative of the older man and this joie de vivre – many also shared hobbies that they had taken up and enjoyed later in life.
It is possible to absorb positivity and to learn things from complete strangers as well.
This is another story about overcoming incredible odds. This Italian teen has no hands and only one leg. Her other leg is a prosthetic. None of this stopped her from learning and becoming proficient at acrobatic pole dancing.
Francesca was born without hands and only one leg. She is just 15 and after just three years of training, she has competed internationally and won medals as well. These stories demonstrate that people can be inspired – and inspiring – whether at age 15 or at age 77.
