Flexi Fare System Launched For Premium Trains From Tomorrow

Following the lead of the aviation industry that recently saw a surge in fare, the railway ministry has decided to introduce a flexible fare system for trains. This system is applicable only on premium trains like Duronto, Rajdhani and Shatabdi until now.`Hence, if you thought of traveling cheap this holiday season, sadly it is just going to be a dream.

When is it applicable from?

September 9 is the date set for this system, but the changes will only be applied to new bookings. Tickets already booked in advance will be charged as per their earlier base rate. Want to know more about the Flexi fare system?

What is the Flexi Fare system?

As per a release by the Ministry of Railways, “The base fares will increase by 10% with every 10% of berths sold subject to a prescribed ceiling limit. There will be no change in the existing fare for 1AC and EC class of travel,”

Will other charges also face the brunt?

No other charges will see any change and will be charged as per their applicability. These charges include service tax, catering expenses and reservation charges. In short, you will have to pay the amount that you had been paying earlier, without any extra cost.

Other helpful resources

The railway will display flexi fare information at the time of ticket reservation for the ease of passengers. Also, the last price of every ticket for a class will also be printed on the reservation chart for reference. The point to remember here is that there is no Premium Tatkal Quota available under this scheme.
