Crazy College Cutoffs – And I'm Not Talking about Shorts!

If you’ve just passed out of class XII or are the parent of a student who’s just finished this all important exam, you probably know all about cut-offs (college admission cutoffs, not jeans that had seen better days). Without going into the details of it, parents and their kids know that cut-offs are reason for huge stress, sleeplessness and uncertainty: ridiculous cutoffs such as the infamous 99.66% for Hansraj College last year, 98.75% this year for LSR and so on.

DU is notorious

There are some impossible cutoff rates that mean even the most meritorious students are unable to get admission into the courses of their choice.

How?

Those of us who did their SSC and HSC with what are now seen as piddling poor marks are full of wonder at their super-students who seem as close to perfection as darn it!

It starts with euphoria

The poor student is happy with his marks; he feels that his hard work paid off. The happiness is short-lived. It lasts only until he encounters those cutoffs!

Eat your heart out

Much like a lover jilting their significant other, the cutoff list breaks many, many hearts.

Oh the pain!

The difference between those who made it and those who didn’t is a chasm: those who make it being in celebration mode, those who didn’t sunk into despair and introspection.

Private college!

They didn’t want to have to think about it, but they are thinking in terms of Amity, Sharda and (gulp) Lovely University!

It’s tough

Every topic has to have a GOT related meme; preferably something relating to Daenerys… because she is the mother of dragons and life doesn’t get any tougher than that. Unless you want to get into DU – that’s tougher.

“Wait”

Bide your time, says this tweet. Or maybe it says "give up all hope". Maybe some useful suggestions there!

Where does it end!

If the cutoffs are in the upper 90s now, it’s just going to get tougher from here on.

Where does it end!

…or scary, depending upon your age or how old your kids are. Thinking about my kids who will go to school after some years, I am frankly terrified!
