Congress Social Media Accounts Hacked And Here Are The Consequences And Reactions

Many of us know by now that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's twitter account was hacked and flooded by hate and abuse by the hackers. Then there was news of yet another hack – the party's official twitter handle had also been hacked into, threatening and abusive tweets were posted. There were apprehensions of further attacks as well; which threatened to expose “internal matters” of the Congress party.

What exactly happened

Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi's twitter account and email account were hacked into. The Congress party’s official twitter account, the official Congress website and servers also faced cyber attacks.

The DP and handle were changed

The display photo was removed and the twitter handle name were changed to an abusive one.

It got really vicious

There was a slew of nasty, homophobic and abusive slurs were unleashed within seconds of the breach. Every nasty insult made its way to the hacked Twitter page. What the tweets lacked in imagination, they more than made up for in terms of sheer decibel of viciousness. And the ranting continued for over an hour. When the account was secured, the tweets were deleted.

Chhota Bheem of course had to be mentioned

Since the Gandhi scion is not known for covering himself in glory as an orator and is known to be frequently at a loss for an intelligent answer when put on the spot, haters had a field day.

The odd conspiracy theory was floated too

It was suggested that this wasn’t hacking but a planned conspiracy to gain sympathy.

RG tried to take the high road?

When this was the response to all the viciousness and abuse – people thought that this did not sound like Rahul Gandhi's own words and joked that the account had been hacked into again!

Threats also surfaced

The self described “spy force” spoke of themselves as “legion” and threatened to “unleash” data if anyone messed with them

The party was threatened too

The hackers upped the bravado ante by promising a “full dump” of Congress emails as a Christmas Special; something that would be enough to destroy the party.

What now?

FIRs have been filed and complaint registered with the Cyber Cell of the Delhi police in the matter. Twitter sources have said that the hacking was the result of an email breach. Perhaps in damage control mode, the Twitter accounts of some 200 Congress leaders were suspended and deactivated because of “suspicious activity”
