Internet fads are the strangest things – someone starts something reasonably stupid and it catches on! Instead of being laughed out of cyber space, the idiotic trend challenges people and picks up followers. Some ‘challenges’ are an excuse to show off, some are about showing solidarity with PLU and some just about peer pressure and a way to conform. Some challenges are stupid, some are dangerous, and others are downright sinister. There is now a new challenge: condom snorting; and yes it is as gross and stupid as it sounds.
There was the Tide pod that basically involved consuming laundry detergent. Then there was the plank challenge, the mannequin challenge, the invisible box challenge, the no pants subway challenge. Is there no end to human stupidity ingenuity?
It involves breathing in a condom through the nose and bringing it out via the mouth. Apparently this trend has been around for a while and has now resurfaced; this cyclical reemergence of trends being quite common among such viral challenges.
When educators were asking teens to use condoms, this is quite certainly not what they meant by ‘practice safe sex’. Really, who dreams up these incredibly idiotic ideas!
Experts say condom snorting is potentially life threatening; this could present a very significant choking hazard. One should not really have to say it, but there's never, ever any reason to insert spermicide and lubricant-covered latex up one’s nose!
It’s just really, really disgusting! I swear, watching some of the videos had me literally gagging. It had me asking the inevitable question – why?
Oh, the perils of technology! We all know that one person who expends huge amounts of time and energy trying to take that perfect selfie… it’s all about vanity, a bit of fame and some ego stoking: likes, views, subscriptions, comments, strong responses of any kind.
To answer the above question - Is there no end to human stupidity ingenuity? I think the answer is incontrovertible: there really is no end to human stupidity ingenuity. So even if we say stop doing this disgusting thing with your respiratory system and they stop (or they figure it out all on their own) this is only a break till the next idiot thinks up the next idiotic challenge idea… Sigh!
