Have you noticed how some people driving the wrong way on the street have to be so careful, avoid oncoming traffic, suffer the glares of others going the right way? I always feel that those guys breaking the law took a lot of trouble to do so – it would have been easier to opt for the legal ‘long-cut’. People felt something similar about Bluetooth slippers created to cheat in exams. If the guy had spent as much time and effort studying as he did for this contraption, he would have done quite well, they felt.
REET or the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers saw a unique form of cheating. Bluetooth devices were found in his slippers and ears after which he was detained. According to other reports, three candidates were arrested for wearing slippers with Bluetooth devices fitted inside.
What a pity this ingenuity and application of mind were not used for actual studies but for creating new ways to cheat.
If we needed any proof of Indians becoming more and more digitally savvy, it is this, this tweet seems to say.
The invigilator of the exam would have been quite amazed. I also wonder how the geniuses with the Bluetooth slippers got caught.
Maybe they would have been proud if they got good marks and didn’t get caught. But they did get caught – that couldn’t have been very nice.
Maybe someone had the same idea and wanted it to remain a secret?
Our movies show cheating as funny; pulling a fast one as cleverness. Not just movies; this is true in our society and in our families as well. We think using unusual ways of cheating is funny and ingenious.
Good old Indian Jugaad! We have so much talent, such ingenious problem solving skills – unfortunately used not for the greater good but to get an unfair personal advantage.
Turns out this wasn’t just about one man creating and using a cheating device. It appears that several people were involved in the making and selling of the now-famous Bluetooth slipper. Several dummy candidates and others involved in the Bluetooth slipper scam were arrested from multiple places in the state.
