Recently, Dubai created the world record for the largest ever jigsaw puzzle. This is however just one among the many Guinness World Records that UAE and Dubai in particular holds. It isn’t just that the world city is home to the world's tallest building, it has many other biggest, highest, most amazing world records!
It is a six thousand sq. mt. jigsaw puzzle; a whopping twelve thousand pieces. It features the image of Sheikh Zayed, to commemorate the farsighted leader in this, the year of Zayed. Located in the Uptown Dubai district, the jigsaw is big enough to be seen from a great distance.
In one year alone, the UAE has added 24 new listings to the Guinness Book of World records and the total number of records has gone up to 190. The new additions include the record for the “largest flower arrangement” which consisted of about 5 million flowers structured like an Airbus A380 at Dubai Miracle Garden.
This was Dubai's unique way of celebrating National Ice Cream Day: by creating a 16m long ice cream cake weighing over four thousand kilos. The record held for several years until it was broken in 2006 in Beijing and then once again in Canada a few years after that.
Not only is this the tallest building in the world, it has resulted in other records as well: The record for the world's tallest hotel is also obviously held by the Burj and the world’s tallest chocolate sculpture (17m) was a replica of the Burj. The world’s highest base jump from a building was also from the Burj.
The UAE is known for its gold souks so it’s no wonder that this record resides here! The 5km long chain weighed in at 240 kg and had about 4 million links. Afterwards, the chain was broken up into smaller, wearable chains.
We know that Dubai consists largely of expats with only about 15% of the population being Emiratis. So this record was also bound to be set here: the highest number of nationalities – people from 117 different countries singing the national anthem to celebrate the 43rd UAE National Day!
There is nothing quite like a juicy doner kebab – except perhaps a bigger doner kebab! This one was the biggest of them all: the Doner restaurant created a 468 kg, 2.95m tall 60cm kebab. More importantly, it found a roast spit large enough to actually cook the thing! The kebab then fed underprivileged families in the city.
Another unique record that Dubai holds, is for the world's largest water screen projection. What is that? It was an 893 sq mt image created using water, light, laser and projection.
300 static cyclists took turns on 100 cycles to create a world record for the most mechanical energy produced in this unique way. With the energy produced, the cyclists managed to light up the Burj Khalifa!
Not only was this the world's largest painting – at 10,850 m long, it was created by kids for a good cause: raising awareness about autism.
