We know that bees are very necessary for human survival. They do vital work for us as pollinators, without which our food sources are threatened. Bee populations being threatened by cell phones and habitat loss has been a concern for many years now. However, most of us see these creatures as annoying and not terribly bright. This recent video seems to show that bees may be a lot smarter than we thought:
These two tiny creatures working in tandem manage to unscrew this bottle. The video went viral, with many tweeple including some blue tick handles sharing it.
According to some, this video represents a key moment of evolution where we actually witness a moment of actual progress unfolding.
What we know traditionally about bees is that they are not terribly bright creatures who do the same thing repetitively throughout life. This video seems to suggest otherwise.
What would those two bees have been discussing there as they tried dislodging the cap of the bottle. This had to have been a difficult task requiring some literal heavy-lifting.
While some wondered how much actual intelligence is needed for something like this, others were wondering whether this was possible only because the bottle cap was already loosened.
Some wondered whether these little creatures are bees or wasps. The consensus view seemed to be that these are honey bees gauging from the stripes and general appearance. Wasps incidentally are also highly useful creatures in the scheme of things.
Dogs with opposable thumbs?
If bees are showing this much intelligence, should we be alarmed that they will take over the world?
They cannot use scissors yet, so were safe from bees right now, says this tweet. He isn't sure about climate change or slightly less threatening scenarios such as asteroids and zombie invasions, however.
Someone had to make a pun of course, about the ‘bee-ginning’ of the end.
About an ‘o-bee-sity’ epidemic with sweetened drinks being a significant culprit.
Octopuses terrify me. The idea of an octopus opening up a bottle is beyond horrifying. The idea of intelligent bees unscrewing the top of a bottle and then taking over the world is a scary one. But an octopus? I hope that happens after I've had time to exit the planet.
