Ever since that fateful evening in November 2016, any announcement of a public address by the PM to the nation successfully sends a collective chill down the spines of Indians. Hence when the announcement about the Prime Minister once again addressing the nation at 10 AM on 14th April was made, the nation was on high alert and Twitter had this to say:
There would be an address to the nation at 10 AM.
Maybe 8PM was too scary?
Life-altering announcements such as demonetisation, a Janata curfew and then a complete three-week lockdown had been made so far.
We were expecting you!
People quickly got in touch with family and friends to warn about the impending address.
There is a sense of foreboding and it is not pleasant.
Here we go.
We've already had a thaal and taali bajao exercise to say thanks and a candle-lit expression of solidarity. People are conjecturing about the next set of instructions.
However, the 13th came and went without incident.
The entire world is cursing China right now because of the virus that was born in the Chinese wet markets selling exotic animals. Chinese authorities are also guilty of having hid the gravity of the situation from the rest of the world; which allowed it to become the pandemic it currently is.
There has been a lot of conjecture about the Third Task.
…No more.
People are making their own predictions about the content of the 10 AM address.
They are waiting.
Most people have realised the gravity of the situation and have decided to come together to try and do their best to overcome the current crisis.
Most people expected an extension of the lockdown.
Get up and look alert. By the time I finished this piece, we had been informed about an extension of the coronavirus lockdown until 3rd May 2020. Most of us had expected this and I daresay we intend to fully comply with this.
I think we all understand that getting out of this quickly (and alive) depends directly upon how sincerely and how well we comply with the lockdown directives.
