34 Tyre Changes in 2 Years? Many Reactions to RTI Query Revelations

Dhanraj S Pillai is a social activist and software engineer from Kochi who made a startling discovery as a result of a Right to Information (RTI) query he filed. The RTI query revealed that Kerala’s Power Minister M M Mani had the dubious distinction of having changed the tyres of his official car 34 times in a two-year span. There were also details about other ministers and their official tyre use, but this one caught everyone's attention.

The Hon’ble minister

When not boasting about killing opponents and insulting police personnel and various other people, this, apparently is what controversial minister M M Mani gets up to.

Strange looking vehicle

In the imaginings of some of the tweeple, this would have to be a very strange looking vehicle to justify this kind of tyre usage.

The reactions

There were many reactions to the RTI query revelations – as this twitter user pointed out, this is tantamount to an admission of bad roads by the government.

The analysis

This Twitter user analysed the numbers in earnest.

‘Living inside the car’

The tweeple also wondered what level of use required such frequent tyre changes.

The clarification

Apparently M M Mani issued this clarification.

Hilly roads

The minister said that hilly roads were responsible for faster tyre turnover.

Sarcasm

This Twitter user had this sarcastic conjecture to make.

An exchange with Toyota

Since the car in question is a Toyota Innova, some people directed their ire at the company and its presumably faulty parts.

Mani became a meme

The minister quickly became a troll-worthy meme for the tweeple.

Alternative name

This commentator suggested an alternative name for the minister as well.

‘Tyre armageddon’

This commentator sarcastically points out that tyres seem to be of great importance.

Anger

Many expressed anger at the RTI revelations; which they felt is a shocking waste of public money.
