2021 Is Here and It Was a New Year Eve with a Difference

Some of us believe that the last day of the year is just like any other and there ought not to be so much hype around New Year’s Eve. They feel that more than the desire to party, there is the pressure to party! For others however, this is the one day of the year they can really let their hair down and celebrate and party the night away. This year of course it was different. With #NightCurfew imposed in many cities and a significant police presence, people's New Year plans were very different indeed.

The story in most places

It was all different this year.

No plans

2020 was a pretty bad year. Some decided to make no plans at all.

That face

That is the face some made when asked about their plans - because they had no plans.

#NightCurfew

Usually, New Year’s Eve sees crowded roads and people celebrating late into the night.

This year

The streets bore a deserted look

Coronavirus is far from over

The virus loves crowds. The night curfew imposition was meant to prevent super-spreader events.

Not this year

With many cities announcing night curfew many plans were spoilt.

This ‘plan’

Some decided that sleeping early was the best plan.

Drink or sleep

Which is the better plan?

Date with the quilt

Some planned nothing more than getting into a cosy bed with a warm quilt.

Or this

There is always something to watch on TV.

For some

For a lot of people, New Year’s Eve is just an excuse to get drunk and rowdy – or perhaps not.

For others

Introverts who find partying unnecessary and tedious, were happy.

Night curfew

Cities like Ahmedabad have had imposition of night curfew intermittently to prevent the needless movement of citizens around the city.

Craving normalcy

Many municipalities impose night curfew these days to limit contagion. Some are fed up of this.

Happy 2021

As people wish each other a Happy New Year and a 2021 that is better than the year past, they hope for a return to normalcy.
