Researchers from Nankai University in Tianjin in China have announced a mind controlled car! A car that is propelled by the power of the mind sounds too outrageous even for a James Bond movie; however this is something that is being hailed as the future of driving. Two years of research have produced a vehicle that can start and stop, go backward and forward, lock and unlock without the driver having to move their hands or feet.

The car needs the driver to wear brain sensing gear which will transmit signals from their brain to a computer which in turn will send commands to the vehicle. It is hoped that the car will be of great help to disabled people and could also help curb vehicular pollution. As of now the car can only move in a straight line. So what if this car comes to India?

A mind controlled car in India?

A mind controlled car may sound really cool and sci-fi but consider what havoc it would wreak on Indian roads; particularly Mumbai and Delhi roads. It is a horrifying idea that Indian drivers in the grip of road rage could get their hands on a car (figuratively) that does the bidding of their rage impaired minds.

Seeing how so many of us have murderous thoughts about our fellow road users when we drive, if we had mind controlled cars, the streets would be littered with the bodies of dead people! Some cheeky pedestrian crosses in front of you forcing you to break sharply, you see red and hey presto! Homicide in broad daylight because your car obeyed you and pulverized the transgressor!

Some idiot overtakes you from the left, cuts in front and causes a complete logjam on the road. If your thoughts controlled your car, your car’s bumper and his would probably become a mangled, tangled mess because your violent thoughts made your car plough right into his; viciously and destructively! You may even ‘wish’ that bus right off the bridge; like this:

And remember, this mind-controlled car can only move in a straight line as of now… the idea that it could navigate twisty, turny Indian roads; roads that widen and narrow at will, which are here today, dug up tomorrow is laughable! So let’s hope that the Chinese have no immediate plans to market this car; and no plans at all to export it to India!
