Tis The Season To Be Merry - & Here’s Some Christmas Cheer

Ever since school, I've enjoyed Christmas. It meant Christmas carols, Santa, Christmas decorations, food and good cheer. I even had older cousins who would put together some gifts for me and so I believed in a mythical gift-delivering Santa Claus for many years. The good cheer, the food, music and general aesthetic of Christmas are still very enjoyable – as are the tweets:

When Santa delivers

It is great fun for kids opening up presents that some fat old bearded guy in a red suit supposedly delivers to kids all over the earth.

Time for family

Even if the family is weird, people meet and manage to have a nice time around the festive season.

When cute doggies…

…Say merry Christmas.

And the ancients do the same

Ageing rockers like Mick Jagger for instance.

And the swish set

The Beckhams said Merry Christmas

And the former POTUS

Barack Obama sent season’s greetings on Twitter via this smiley pooch.

Season for gifting

It is fun to give and receive Christmas gifts.

The shopping is fun too!

It is supposed to start on Black Friday – but basically, shopping can go on all year.

Sounds like a good Christmas

Bacon and cheese? I’ll take that any day of the year!

Winter break

Christmas is also about the winter break and holidays!

Christmas memes

Of course, there were memes – relatable memes.

Like this

A time to be merry

For those of us with mental health issues, this can be a difficult time when people are expected to be merry and to celebrate.

And then there’s Boxing Day

The only thing we in India know about Boxing Day is that a lot of test matches tend to start on that day. It is the day after Christmas when traditionally, gifts are given to the poor (and church charity boxes were opened and the money distributed) now it is mostly known as a shopping holiday.

When atheists say Merry Christmas

There are those who believe that religious ought to be strictly personal, and that it should be kept out of government. Sounds like a great idea.

This story

Religion is of value when it helps bring peace and heals the divisions among people. This is one such heartening Christmas story.
