The microblogging platform Twitter used to have a 140 character limit which was doubled to 280 characters. However, data shows us that tweets most commonly hover around the 33 character mark. Few tweets seem to need 140 characters to express their thoughts; even fewer need 280. No one was surprised with the #2019In5Words hashtag which called upon the tweeple to encapsulate the year gone by in just five words. Brevity is the end-all and be-all of Twitter it would seem.

These birds seem to be a metaphor for togetherness; for dissolving differences to work together.
Because what is cuter than a happy little elephant calf frolicking in a bathtub!
People who got married, bought a new home or car, got a new job spoke about positive new beginnings.
New beginnings
While some spoke about problems and setbacks in the past year, others decided to leave the past behind.
People used the hashtag to tweet about important issues close to the heart.
