Take One Leave One Movie – People Are Loving This Great Initiative

Sometimes, certain spontaneous ideas just catch the fancy of people – such as, say the Wall of Kindness idea. It’s the kind of thing that makes us go – what a good idea! Wish I had thought of it – because sharing is caring! Recently such an idea gained popularity on social media – TAKE A MOVIE LEAVE A MOVIE it said

This post

So this is a box that contains video tapes and DVDs of films of various vintages. The idea is that anyone who wants one can take it; just replace it with another. Culture critic Scott Meslow tweeted this.

“I own that box”

The person whose idea it was seemed really happy that their idea had been noticed and appreciated.

Some noticed individual titles

This one is a 2001 American-German science fiction-mystery film that has Kevin Spacey in it… probably why it’s in the ‘Leave’ pile?

But…

This is a valid point. Very few people still own a VCR that would play the sort of video cassettes that were so widely used back in the day.

Good movie, but…

How does one watch it?

Some still appreciate this

There are those who collect VHS tapes and other supposedly obsolete stuff. Many of us do also still have DVD drives in our computers and laptops.

Some don’t

Some think that DVD as a concept is just outdated. Apparently streamed content is the only way to go.

Not a new idea

Apparently people in New Zealand already have had this idea. It is a box for books --- a box where people can exchange books.

One good turn deserves another

Good ideas like this one tend to resonate and then they gain their own currency. Others shared similar boxes they maintained.

Sometimes however

Things can go wrong --- as they did in this village in the UK.

A confession

This commentator confesses that they never left a book.

Bottom line

Take a Movie, Leave a Movie is a really good venture and is a great way to share stuff around a community. In the end it is about this and also of course, about the magic of movies!
