Reasons Why Dubai International Airport Is the Top Airport in the World

Dubai is a hugely popular holiday and retail destination and is also one of the business hubs that attracts some of the world's top professionals. As such a large, well equipped airport is a must for the city. To this end, Dubai airports carry on innovating and expanding capabilities to continue to handle huge passenger volumes. Here is what makes Dubai airports among the best in the world offering some of the best travel experiences:

World’s busiest international aviation hub

Dubai is the world’s busiest airports – catering to those for whom the UAE is a destination as well as to transit passengers on their way to other destinations. As such, the airport handled about 90 million passengers in 2017. This was a 5.6% increase over the previous year. DXB has been the busiest since 2014, when Dubai edged out London's Heathrow as the busiest airport.

The cloud based flight information display

Dubai airports will soon boast an advanced cloud based info display. It was announced that this single dedicated platform will be rolled out to enhance efficiency and timeliness in a visually impactful delivery system. The new VisionAir FIDS software is operable without external PCs helping reduce the airport’s electrical footprint and operational costs.

Passenger preapproval system

Passport control can be time consuming and tedious. Hence airport authorities have devised ways to cut down on that time drastically. Vetting of travelers 48 hours in advance of travel will obviate waiting in long lines and the checking time will be down to as little as 10 seconds. The system is already installed in Terminal 3 and will be ready for Terminals 1 and 2 shortly.

The smart corridor

The smart corridor immigration tunnel is going to be a reality at Dubai international airport shortly. This is to be introduced in the airport area catering to privilege and primary passengers and uses facial feature capture and iris on the move. This will save time and hassle as passengers will avoid queues to simply walk through immigration.

Interactive experience for transit passengers

Airport transit areas can be boring, but not if you're in Dubai, it would seem! Now transit passengers will be treated to a high tech virtual reality experience that highlights some of the local attractions and cultural aspects of the area. The project is called Microcosm of Dubai and aims to showcase the tourist attractions and culture of the city.

Airbus A380 service to Hamburg

Emirates Airlines announced the first scheduled double decker service to Hamburg. This will help to increase the total number of weekly seats to 6,090 (by 22%) and offers a wider choice of travel options to those traveling from Germany to Dubai.

Smart gates will replace officials

Dubai airport's Concourse A was already the first of its kind; now the airport is slated for more technological advancements. According to an announcement made by Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, passport officials at Dubai airport will be replaced by smart gates by 2030.  This will underline the status of Dubai as the city of the future and the capital of innovation.
