That old adage about the way to someone’s heart being through the stomach is an old one. Usually, it is the way to a man’s heart with the woman doing the cooking of course. Someone made a TikTok video based on this notion and the video went viral. This is not the only one. Take a look.
The video starts out with the commitment phobic male claiming not to want a girlfriend, tasting some food, confirming that the food was made by the woman and then promptly wanting to marry her.
This thing about women cooking for the men in their lives and the men loving them for it – this is something we see across cultures. Some else also had this idea – the guy in this video quickly changes his tune as he digs into his meal.
He finds out she can cook – and he’s talking marriage. There are several of these videos floating around – such as this guy who wants to take his shoes off ‘for a few years’.
It doesn’t seem to have occurred to this guy to learn to cook for himself – he is still waiting to date a woman who can cook well.
The guy in the video has clear priorities – he meets a woman who can cook and wants to marry her – when moments ago he didn’t even want a relationship. Wonder what kind of marriage that will be - an unequal one, as this tweet indicates.
Apparently being a good cook is a sole requirement. Compatibility, companionship, shared values, attraction? Not important?
It is satisfying to see others relish and appreciate one's efforts – if that is a woman’s choice good for her… so long as it is appreciated and so long as her labour isn't taken for granted.
How about if the man had to ‘audition’ for the part of a ‘husband’ the way the women did?
Presumptuous guy – he presumes she will want to marry him and also that she will continue to cook for him for all their time together. Clearly, the men in all these videos haven’t realised that the world has moved on since the time when men thought women were placed on this earth to merely serve them. Most sensible women (and men, of course) watching this video would have gone – go learn to cook for yourself dude! Stop expecting women to wait on you and baby you your entire life!
