Singles Awareness Day is supposed to be a day for singles to get together and commiserate or celebrate, depending on the way you look at it. One can choose to be sad that they are single or they can choose to celebrate their independence and remind themselves that one doesn’t have to be in a relationship to be happy; a sort of thumbing of the nose at smug couples.
This is the day that one can revel in being alone. All those who deplore the marketing baggage of Valentine Day can embrace this status and celebrate freedom and individuality without the fuss and the bother of the accoutrements of romance.
