In the beginning there was Nexus apparently, but most people don’t know about that. When most people started to use the internet we learned to deal with the painfully slow, clunky, tab-less Netscape Navigator and of course Internet Explorer. With other smarter, faster, more secure browsers making their appearance, Netscape Navigator disappeared in the early 2000s. However Internet Explorer continued to cling tenaciously to existence (if not relevance). Now, 25 years after its launch in 1995, the end of IE is announced.
“Internet Explorer right now: Achcha chalta hu, memes me yaad rakhna,” said another tweet. And soon people were tweeting about how they would not miss IE.
The many parody accounts celebrating IE’s slow speed and other general clunkiness seems to indicate that this was not the most popular of browsers. `
The browser has been around for 25 years – that is a lifetime! In technological terms that is several lifetimes.
Internet Explorer was one of the first browsers most people ever used.
People may miss IE, but mostly because of the memes, said the tweeple.
Probably not.
Web developers will not have to struggle with the need to make content IE-friendly.
The tweeple shared posts about how Microsoft decided to kill off the old relic.
Who uses IE anyway? Apparently very, very few people.
Most people used IE because it came bundled with their computer software and then only for the limited purpose of downloading a better browser.
Such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and so on.
One of the most frequently leveled charges against Internet Explorer was, of course, the speed issue.
People will not miss this
Maybe it was the worst browser, but it was family, says this tweet. Also, it showed other browsers what not to be.
All in all, Internet Explorer was a relic before its time --- and about three people on earth will, in fact, miss it.
