Chinese Tourists May Shun Thailand but Not Indian Tourists

According to a recent report, there has been a decline in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand. The influx that fueled the development of tourism in Thailand seems to be drying up. However, there is no such decline among the number of Indians visiting Thailand. That number is just increasing. According to one source, "The Indian inbound market could potentially rival that of China," and the reasons for this are many:

It is abroad

We still have a ‘phoren’ hangover and want to travel abroad. Very importantly we want to be seen to travel aboard – because social media! A holiday in Thailand is the chance to pepper your conversation with a casual when I was holidaying abroad

The paisa vasool vacation

So what if we cannot afford Europe! We can certainly afford Thailand! The baht is a lot more pocket friendly than the euro.

We love package deals

The all-expenses paid 6 night 7 day deal sounds very attractive. Especially with ‘Indian’ meals and sightseeing throw in!

We can take it

We don’t mind the heat and the rain and the crowds. We are used to chaos, to awful climate. Nothing Thailand can throw at us can faze us; weather wise or otherwise. Anything is better than the brutal Indian summer.

They are PLU (people like us)

The Thai people are friendly, laid back and several places there look and feel like India! The streets are crowded and we don’t mind.

The beaches

Indians may not venture out in a swimsuit in good old India but they may just get daring on a Thai beach! The swimsuit that never saw the light of day back home could get an airing and even perhaps a wetting! Plus there is affordable parasailing, jet-skiing and more!

The photo ops

Thailand is exotic enough for some great photo ops. The family having fun, everyone at the pool, exotic eats, picturesque locales and more! After all Facebook pe bhi mooh dikhana hai!

Petting zoos

More great photo ops right there. Get within touching distance of a big cat and there you have fodder for display pix for a year or more!

रास्ते का माल सस्ते में

There is cheap street food, cheap shopping and much more to enjoy in Thailand. For us Indians, getting good value for money is very, very important and the affordable shopping options warm the cockles of our thrifty hearts!

The nightlife

Thailand gives Indians a chance to let down their hair and do things that they may not do back home. Indians love the night clubs, the pubs, massage parlours and other adult entertainment options that they may not have in India or may be too embarrassed to try.
