Bizarre & Hilarious Traffic Laws From Around The World

Crazy laws do get passed from time to time owing to specific issues endemic to an area. The lawmakers sometimes don’t realise how strange the laws seem; sometimes the law is well past its applicability and those laws exist only because someone forgot to repeal or take it off the statute books. Take a look at some of these strange laws that we've collected from around the country:

In Russia it is illegal to drive a dirty car

Not sure if this is to do with aesthetics, snobbery or just a big daddy attitude but people are fined for driving a dirty car in some parts of Russia. Perhaps the logic is that if your car is clean, so is your windshield and the clearer is your visibility?

Don’t kiss in a moving car if you're in Italy

Is this the passionate Italians we're talking about? Apparently, they had an attack of prudishness not so long ago and in Eboli, couples face a €500 fine for kissing in cars. Besides, I want to ask; is it OK to make out when the car is not moving? And what if you're kissing in the back seat of the moving car… if you are a honeymoon couple and so on?

Don’t drive in a housecoat if in California

Those robes may look cosy and comfy, but if you're in California, don’t get behind the wheel! What about Indian aunties who go simply everywhere in their nightwear? Albeit with a dupatta? No comments!

Fine for driving too slow

In several states in the United States you could get fined for driving too slow; because you would be “blocking traffic or creating a road hazard”. Hmm… not a law we need in India, I think. There are so many traffic blocks and road hazards…they'll have to fine everyone!

In Sweden you must keep your car headlights on 24x7

Its really, really cold there, lots of fog and really short days for many months of the year so that explains it. And it explains another thing: this has to be the inspiration for those fancy daylight headlamps that so many new cars are fitted with!

Swearing from a vehicle is a misdemeanor

This is a punishable offence in several parts of the world; not India though. In Delhi we would have a 100000 fines a minute!

In Costa Rica you can drink but not be drunk

Don’t drive drunk; you can still drink as you drive. So you can celebrate as you drive; you just cannot drive after you celebrate.

In Cyprus, you cannot eat or drink behind the wheel

Think you’ll finish your breakfast while driving to work? How about a drink of water while stuck in that traffic jam? Not if you're Cyprus!

You cannot clean a car with used underwear in California

Car washes are prohibited from using used underwear for cleaning cars. Perhaps, they were trying to prevent something like this?
