WhatsApp Dark Mode May or May Not Be Here, But the Memes Certainly Are

I'm not sure why this is so, but the dark mode on various apps is a big deal. I myself like Twitter's dark mode a whole lot better than its regular mode and I'm not sure why. Netizens similarly hailed Instagram’s dark mode. WhatsApp finally announced its Dark Mode and netizens got their meme on:

WhatsApp dark mode

WhatsApp Inc.’s official twitter handle made the #DarkMode announcement via this short video in which people are all dazzled by an overly bright screen. The video uses Simon & Garfunkel's iconic Sound of Silence for the announcement; a previously unreleased version of the song by Paul Simon.

How to enable #DarkMode

First check on the Play Store or iTunes if there is a WhatsApp update and make sure your app is up to date. Android users can then go to Settings > Display > Select theme and choose Dark from the three available options. For iOS follow these steps: Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Invert Colours > Smart Invert.

Long time coming

There had been demands for WhatsApp's dark mode for some time now.

Finally!

So people are delighted with this.

System level

You need Android 10 and iOS 13 to enable dark mode. So it would seem that the dark mode is still system dependent, not available for everyone.

Not happy

Those who cannot enable dark mode are unhappy. There is also no dark mode option for desktop WhatsApp.

Sympathy?

Say what?

Some don’t understand what the fuss is all about. They’ve been living with the white mode and have managed to survive and everything.

Others are happy

There are various reasons people are happy. They don’t want the glare at night, black is aesthetic or perhaps they’re Goths.

Others were like

Been there, done that.

Big deal

Some made it clear that WhatsApp dark mode was not going to be life-altering for them.

Other 'dark modes'

Spiderman’s dark mode was dark, evil.

Dark future?

Perhaps this is a comment upon the amount of time we all waste on social media – leading to a potentially dark future?

#DarkMode

Agent of Darkness could be Satan, I'm guessing.

Now this

This was bound to happen – if all the other social media platforms have a Dark Mode, why not the daddy of all social media platforms Facebook?

Facebook is like

It is now practically the only social media platform without dark mode.

Literally

The only one!

And this

People had various other requests for tweaks/functionalities that they wanted. Well for now, people will just have to make do with WhatsApp #DarkMode.
