What to Watch This February on Netflix

For a lot of people, February is the month of romance because that is the month of Valentine’s Day and the weeklong celebration of mush and sickly sweet schmaltz. Even if you don’t believe in all the nonsense of Valentine’s Day, some of these romance films may still be worth a watch:

About Time

This is about a man who is told about a great family secret by his father – the fact that he can travel back in time like every man in his family. So this is about an ordinary, extraordinary life; the man who goes back and forth for the love of his life. Starring Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams this is a sweet, tender, funny and enjoyable little film to curl up with.

The Theory of Everything

This is a story about Stephen Hawking but it is also the story of the great romance of his life; his wife Jane Hawking. Based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking this is a story about love that defied the odds and also a story about a truly remarkable life. Starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, the film has been critically acclaimed and has won several awards as well.

Happy Anniversary

This is not about that happily ever after; it is about the after the happily ever after. Because love is hard.  Starring Noël Wells, Ben Schwartz and others, the movie follows the trials and tribulations of the couple navigating their relationship after the first flush of love has faded a little.

Always Be My Maybe

Starring Ali Wong, Randall Park, this is not a very original concept. It’s about childhood friends who reconnect and rediscover each other and go on to have a romantic relationship. What really makes this movie watchable, is the lead pair and Keanu Reeves as himself --- Keanu sending up Keanu is the best part of this movie – go watch.

Falling Inn Love

She wins a contest and finds herself the owner of an inn in New Zealand. Turns out the inn is a bit of a dump and she needs help getting it restored. Christina Milian and Adam Demos this is a good old rom-com with some of the many romantic tropes filmmakers are known to use but it is a breezy one-time watch nevertheless.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before

This one is the quintessential teen romance. It is cute, has cute people in it and is more or less predictable. Based on the young adult romance novel by Jenny Han, this movie has a sequel (with another one coming out, see below) too if you like this one a lot. Starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo the movie is sweet and simple and watchable in spite of being nothing you haven’t already seen before.

To All The Boys: Always and Forever

This is the third edition of the films. Starring the same rather adorable pair, this one takes along the story and will release on 12 February on Netflix just before Valentine's Day. This is the last instalment of the film series in which Lara Jean takes a life-altering trip that makes her reimagine her life ahead.
