Tiger Shroff seems to subsist on sequels – he has been in various Baaghi films, starred in the second edition of Student of the Year and will now be seen in in Heropanti 2. We didn’t really ask for the first Heropanti film but regardless of that, we shall now have Heropanti 2. The film’s first look reveals a new and improved Tiger Shroff; a far cry from the one we saw in his debut film, it has to be said.
When Tiger Shroff was launched in Heropanti in 2014, there was a lot of unkind tittering of this sort. At the time he was just another star kid getting a dream launch-pad film. The film did well, but that was by the way.
He is grateful to “carry forward another franchise” said Tiger Shroff in his tweet. The poster also announced the release date of 21 July 2021 for Heropanti 2.
What again? Presumably the movie will be all about why the world wants him dead and how he will prevent the world from doing this. Ho hum.
The tweeple quickly identified and told us about the previous posters that these bear a remarkable resemblance to.
The tweeple also thought that this was some lazy photoshopping. Either that or Tiger Shroff really does have only one expression.
While some thought that the posters were pretty slick-looking, others were not convinced.
Bollywood is all about cashing in on successful franchises with sequels and remakes these days, pointed out the tweeple.
It isn't very clear whether this tweet expresses genuine appreciation for Shroff or is being sarcastic about Bollywood's old-wine-new-bottle formula.
Because of the similarities, the tweeple started to immediately make the ‘sasta copy’ jokes about the posters.
In the past it didn’t matter as much because audiences weren't as familiar with content from other, non-Bollywood films.
Now however, any copy is instantly spotted and pointed out.
Then it was stories, entire scenes copied frame by frame, and now posters as well.
Bollywood is content to retell formulaic stories and repackage unoriginal old content. This is a reflection upon audiences as much Bollywood.
If audiences weren't content with rehashed, implausible stories filmmakers wouldn’t be allowed to get away with it all. Clearly, audiences liked the unoriginal, done-to-death formula of Heropanti enough to make it a hit. Heropanti 2 doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. While Tiger Shroff has certainly gotten leaner, meaner and more chiselled over the years, we’ll have to wait to see if Heropanti part two is any better than part one.
