We always knew that War starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor would be a full paisa vasool movie. The record box office opening it received reinforces this expectation. According to reports, the movie crossed the previous best opening of Thugs of Hindostan. However, when we recall that movie we remember what a terrible film that was. Is War better? Check out what the reviewers and viewers say before spending your time and money.
According to industry pundits, the movie crossed the previous record set by Thugs of Hindostan. This is in spite of the lower screen count. The simultaneous multi-lingual release of the film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu has had an excellent reception at the box office.
They wanted to leave in the first half.
This viewer did not seem to enjoy the film and thought the film had no story, no script and that Tiger is a terrible actor. However, this commentator says that Roshan is an overrated dancer as well, so I have to seriously question his judgment.
Several viewers, as well as reviewers, thought that the first half was better than the second half when the pace and story start to flag a bit. Perhaps those with very high expectations were disappointed?
There is also the view that the negative publicity is false and is a deliberate form of trolling.
Vaani Kapoor is supposed to be the female lead and the movie also stars Anupriya Goenka, Dipannita Sharma and Soni Razdan. However, this is a movie devoted to the men and makes no bones about this fact.
He calls it ‘escapist cinema at its best and names it a blockbuster for its visual appeal, action, thrills, twists and suspense.
This reviewer is even more impressed with the film, its action and the performances by the lead actors.
Fans of Roshan have loved the movie and they see it as a maturing and staying power of the actor.
There are those who feel that Roshan should be working in Hollywood; that he is ‘too good for Indian cinema’ – whatever that means.
Many metaphors about exploding ovaries are circulating currently. This sums up the reaction of at least some of the female of the species to the film’s lead.
It isn’t just Roshan, Tiger Shroff also receives kudos for his performance and look in the film. By all accounts, his acting skills have taken a turn for the better in recent times.
If the theatre attendance and tweets are any indication, War has been very well received by audiences. The pre-release hype for Thugs may have been very, very misleading, but with War we can expect precisely what was promised: gorgeous men, stunning locations, lots of spills and thrills, a slick, escapist, well-packaged film.
