Firstly let’s clear the confusion between ‘ki’ and ‘di’. Veerey Ki Wedding starring Pulkit Sharma, Kriti Kharbanda and Jimmy Shergill released on March 2018, was a purported rom-com that required considerable suspension of disbelief, as say reviews. On the other hand, Veere di Wedding is a soon-to-be released gal pal film, whose trailer released recently to largely positive reviews. Here is the trailer of Veere di Wedding and everything else you wanted to know about it:
The trailer shows four very real-sounding women – swearing, speaking about their travails, their sex life (or lack thereof), their relationships and then their weddings (or otherwise). Viewer discretion advised – there is some foul language and liberated thoughts in the trailer featuring the interesting combination of the cast of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania and Sumeet Vyas.
She got pregnant during the shooting of the film and now this is something of a comeback film for her. With her son Taimur just 16 months of age right now, she is going to take her time to think about signing any new films.
Audiences feel that it is about time women and women-centric themes found their way into the film world. While we have had numerous films about male bonding and male ‘dosti’, female friendships have received short shrift so far. If this film is well-received, it will hopefully pave the way for more women-centric content from Bollywood.
Producer Ekta Kapoor and moviemaker and celebrity chat show host Karan Johar had gushing praise for the trailer and those involved in the movie.
Many tweets spoke out against the film trailer; particularly the use of swear words by the women. Many of these commentators feel that swearing is not tantamount to being liberated and that the use of ‘crass’ language is gratuitous.
It’s about women exploring their problems, their friendships, relationships with their significant others, girls being girls, letting their hair down… how is it not a chick flick again? Maybe it isn’t; what do I know.
Here some random maulana reportedly issued a fatwa against Kareena for… wait for it… “naming her film #VeereDiWedding and not Veere Da Nikkah, despite being a Muslim”. Fortunately no one is really listening to ramblings such as these except for a few looking for a merry laugh.
The actors of the film had recently protested against the Kathua case, this is apparently tantamount to maligning the Hindu religion. By thier act of protest, the actors stood transformed into ‘Hindu haters’. So of course the boycott squad regrouped to hurl personal polemics and call for the film’s boycott. Whether the merry boycott band is able to sway public opinion or not is secondary. When all is said and done, the proof of the pudding is in the eating; we shall soon see whether the film itself is good enough to merit the public's time and attention. Come 1 June 2018, we’ll decide for ourselves whether we want to go and watch the profanity-spewing gal pals of Veerey di Wedding.
