With the wide array of non-formulaic stories, female centric themes and even some fairly bold attempts at filmmaking recently on offer, Bollywood fans have never had it so good. We take a look at what new and interesting offerings are lined up to release in the near future: watch the trailer and check the release date.
This is the Hindi version of the film Viceroy’s House by Gurinder Chadha (of Bend it like Beckham fame); a historical drama starring Hugh Bonneville, Huma Qureshi, Gillian Anderson, Manish Dayal. The film revolves around the historical occurrences and prominent figures of the time as well as the difficulties of partition. The film also follows the trials and tribulations of the staff of the Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten’s house. Releasing on 18th August 2017, watch the trailer of Partition: 1947 to decide whether this will be your choice for the weekend.
This is a rom-com featuring Rajkumar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon. The trailer of the film seems to show the female protagonist from a small town, but someone who rebels against convention. There appear to be a couple of guys vying for her attention. Also releasing on 18th August 2017, this is another possibility to brighten your weekend.
Famous for having been asked to shorten a too-long kiss, this romantic action film stars Jacqueline Fernandez along with Sidharth Malhotra in a double role: Rishi is a foul mouthed gangster who is rather free with his fists and then there is Gaurav who is very much about the straight and narrow. The trailer of A Gentleman seems to indicate that this rom-com about mistaken identities will be good for some laughs, spills and thrills. This one releases next weekend on 25th August 2017.
This is an upcoming action thriller starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bengali actress Bidita Bag. The trailer seems to indicate some fairly adult content: in terms of violence as well as sexual content with some rustic humour thrown in for good measure. This one releases on 25th August and for admirers of Siddiqui’s craft, this appears to be one that cannot be missed.
Another action thriller, this one stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, Ileana D'Cruz & Vidyut Jammwal. The trailer is packed full of gangsters, fights and shootouts and is said to be set during the Emergency Era of the 1970s. Baadshaho releases on 1 September 2017.
Played by Kangana Ranaut, Simran is a Gujarati woman who works as a housekeeper in the United States. The film is inspired by the real life story of Sandeep Kaur. Kangana’s character has aspirations of changing her life and making it big; in the event she gets entangled in a web of crime. The trailer of Simran speaks of a bitter-sweet film coming to a theater near you on 1 September 2017
