Total Dhamaal Releases in February 2019 – Watch the Trailer and Check Out Reactions

Remember that old English film, It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) and the supposed Indian version of it, Dhamaal (2007)? Me neither. Well after that madcap caper with a bunch of bumbling fools, they made Double Dhamaal in 2011... another madcap caper with a bunch of bumbling fools. Now we are to have a third dose of that same comedy series. The trailer of Total Dhamaal is out and the film releases on 22 February 2019.

Total Dhamaal trailer

The film is about yet another bunch of bumblers tearing around for a prize of Rs 50 crores and running into all sorts of misadventures on the way. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Madhuri Dixit, Esha Gupta, Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani and several others.

Insult to intelligence

So what’s new! The previous two films gave us every warning about what to expect: slapstick hamming and over-acting, a harebrained story, implausible plot, stereotypical characters, sexual innuendo, unfunny jokes et el.

Comedy or tragedy?

Several commentators who viewed the trailer were less than impressed. The usual combination of foreign locations, an item song or two (featuring Sonakshi Sinha in this case), filmi references, bad mimicry and some over the top villain is a formula Bollywood has done to death and a lot of people are quite weary of it.

Many loved the trailer

There were plenty who thought that the trailer, with funny men such as Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra, was uproariously funny and entertaining.

Top trending video

The Total Dhamaal trailer currently has well over 23 million views and is trending at No 1 on YouTube. Clearly there are a lot of people who are looking forward to the film that promises to deliver its particular brand of comedy.

VFX?

Some viewers were less than impressed with the special effects of the film. Much of the action has happened in front of the green screen, and in most cases this is rather obvious.

More comments about VFX

According to another commentator, the moviemakers spent all their money hiring that endless list of actors for the movie and didn’t have much money left over for the VFX.

Anil Kapoor started a meme

Kapoor plays a character called Avinash Patel; apparently a stereotypical timid Gujarati.

The 10 year challenge

There were also those who had loved the original film and were considerably less amused by the sequel of its sequel. They expressed their disdain by referencing the popular ongoing social media challenge.

Progressively worse?

Making a reference to the Ariana Grande song, this commentator expressed similar sentiments of not liking the trailer as much as the previous film (s). Now that you know what to expect after watching the Total Dhamaal trailer, it's your choice whether you want to brave the screening of the feature film on 22 February 2019.
