Friendship is a feeling, a bond, a way of living, that is very difficult to explain, isn’t it? No matter what one says about it, it’s never quite right. In honour of Friendship Day coming up soon, we decided to try and find some dialogues that do a decent job of describing the different flavours that exist in true friendship.

“Jab dost fail hota hai to dukh hota hai, par jab woh first aye to aur bhi dukh hota hai.” – 3 Idiots

Nope! Dont like it at all.

Nope! Don’t like it at all.

Seriously! No matter how much you love your friend, the expectation is that they should be miserable along with you, right? And they were with you the whole time you guys were NOT studying, so how did they manage to get better marks than you, anyway? Right?

“Kya tum mantally challenged ho my bwoy?” – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Teri toh!

Teri toh!

No one likes being called an idiot, by anyone. But a real friend will call you one at every given opportunity, every time and will make sure you are reminded of it every time you screw up. And will even laugh at you while they are doing it.

“Do dost ek pyale mein chai piyenge … isse dosti badti hai” – Andaz Apna Apna

Only a real friend understands and covers for the state of your empty pocket. Think of all those times, that you’ve shared one strip of gum, or split a Maggi or taken a lift because there isn’t enough money for an auto.

“Mere samajh mein yeh naheen aata hai, ke tu use bardasht kaise karta hai? Girlfriend kam aur boss zyada lagti hai!” – Dil Chahta Hai

Calling a spade a spade

Calling a spade a spade

Only a real friend will try to get you out of a relationship that isn’t good for you. And at times will be ready to do anything, in order to get you broken up. From not giving messages, to getting you late or even giving you the wrong message.

“Pyar agar pant hai toh dosti chaddi hai … pant agar phat bhi jaye toh chaddi izzat bachati hai” – Chashme Baddoor (2013)

Sahi!

Sahi!

True that! Despite all their attempts to get you broken up, if you don’t listen to them and this love or infatuation leaves you, then a true friend will stick around to pick up the pieces no matter what. But they will tell you, “I told you so” after every piece they pick up and will rub this failed relationship in your face FOREVER!

“Badi duvidha thi, dost ko sambhalte ki dost ki maa ke aasoon pochte … phir humne socha hatao yaar mattar paneer pe concentrate karo.” – 3 Idiots

Prioritisation is key

Prioritisation is key

The reality of friendship is such, as long as it doesn’t really effect you and until the point where a friend really, really needs you, you’ll try to stay out of their drama as much as possible. After all you have our own dramas to deal with.

“Teri mom ne kabhi sabun se tera mooh nahi dhoya kya? … kitni gaaliyan deti hai.” – Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Always looking out for you

Always looking out for you

This one is a very good description of a guy-girl friendship. A guy will always be surprised if his friend (who is a girl) can abuse like a sailor, or at least like him. And he will always try to curb this habit. It’s a guy-girl thing. **shrug**

“Teri jeet meri jeet, teri haar meri haar, sunle mere yaar…Yeh dosti, hum naheen bhoolenge…” – Sholay

The ultimate and the best

The ultimate and the best

So OK this is not a dialogue but this story on friendship would be totally incomplete if we didn’t talk about the love that existed between Jai and Veeru.
