The trailer of Luka Chuppi, a film starring Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan dropped and to answer the above question, apparently lot of people are interested. The #LukaChuppiTrailer and #AryanVaid hashtags were trending on Twitter and the movie quickly garnered over 15 million views and counting.

Luka Chuppi Trailer

With news of all the celeb weddings, the boy – Vinod “Guddu” Rathore – is inspired to propose to the girl – Siya – and she turns him down like a blanket on a summer afternoon. She wants to try out a live-in relationship – modern but not very modern, because she doesn’t want ‘voh sab’ (all that). Then the families get involved, and all sorts of complications ensue.

Loving it!

The trailer is funny and peopled with likable characters. The lead pair is good looking and has great chemistry together. The other characters in the film promise to be real, relatable and believable. This is a movie produced by Dinesh Vijan, who has previously produced Stree, Love Aaj Kal, Being Cyrus, Finding Fanny and several other critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.

The memes followed quickly

The incongruity of a girl referring to a guy as ‘bhaisahab’ when he has just proposed marriage to her; going down on one knee tickled the fancy of many.

Relatable

This scene struck a chord with a lot of the Tweeple because of how the phrase lends itself so well to myriad situations in everyday life. “When you are on a date with bae but see bua ji coming” said another tweet.

The old and the new

The movie trailer seems to indicate a conflict between a family with conservative values and a young, modern couple who wants to live life on their own terms. There are disapproving relatives and what appears to be a trigger happy granddad as well.

The eternal Indian struggle

One's choice of study subjects, career choice are rarely one's own. Parental and societal expectations usually trump personal aspirations. “Sharam na aayi tujhe ye sab karne se pehle” is a phrase a lot of us have heard a lot of times.

Follow the herd

Engineering or medicine – for many brilliant Indian kids, these are the only two choices – at least a lot of parents seem to think so.

Marwadi reference

There are always those who thrive on regional stereotypes – this one speaks about the canny Marwadi businessman, for whom the profit motive is all!

Trailer ends on a curious note

It’s not clear whether or not the young couple does in fact get married, nor is it clear why they are doing pheras in their night things; which is the point at which the trailer of Luka Chuppi ends. All will be explained come 1 March 2019 when the movie releases in theatres.
