Remember the 2003 comedy film Hungama starring Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, Paresh Rawal, Rimi Sen some of the other usual comedic suspects? Me neither. Well, we are now to have what is being called the spiritual successor to that film. Hungama 2 will release on Disney+ Hotstar on 23 July 2021. The film's trailer released to mixed responses. Take a look:
The stars Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Meezaan Jaffrey and Pranitha Subhash and seems to be a story of the older insecure husband, the hot wife, some misunderstandings about infidelity etc. A bedroom farce in other words? So it would seem.
One of the big USPs of the film appears to be that old hit featuring Shilpa Shetty and Akshay Kumar – chura ke dil mera. This probably has something to do with the fact that Kumar is seen promoting the film trailer?
Paresh Rawal plays the older insecure man with the hot young wife in the new film. In the old film, he played a character with the same name also suspecting his wife having an affair with a younger man. Apparently, this is ha-ha funny.
Audiences had liked some of the character from the original movie that seemed to be missing here.
Many however were disappointed with the trailer and reacted accordingly.
Some Bollywood commentators have given the movie a thumbs down – for being a clichéd, double meaning type comedy.
People who had enjoyed Hungama are not very pleased with Hungama 2.
The story and direction of both films are by Priyadarshan who returns to Bollywood after eight years.
The tweeple think that the actors of the original film will be most disappointed with the new film.
It’s not funny thought people after watching the trailer.
But were disappointed.
The song that is the USP of the film is originally from the 1994 hit Main Khiladi Tu Anari starring Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty.
Shilpa Shetty reprises herself from the older song, but people don’t seem too pleased.
Johnny Lever is usually seen in slapstick films such as these. He is missing here, but we do see another of the usual suspects – Rajpal Yadav.
Where there is a new trailer release, there are new meme templates it seems. Hungama 2 seems not to have excited audiences overmuch. But if you have nothing to do on 23 July 2021, you may want to check it out.
