I confess I don’t know much about Star Wars so I had to look this up: who or what is a Ben Solo? Turns out he is Kylo Ren, the only son of the characters Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa (even I know they're important). Played by Adam Driver he apparently aspires to super-villainhood, like his grandfather Darth Vader. A small gesture by this character has caught everyone's fancy; the #BenSoloChallenge it is now viral and inspiring millions around the world.
This is Adam Driver in the moment that inspired the #BenSoloChallenge.
Pulling a light sabre out from behind the back and then doing a little shrug. That's it. That's the entire ‘challenge’.
Is there a context that makes this great or significant or whatever?
Is this the challenge; that one allows oneself to look silly and lets others have a good laugh at one's expense?
Geeks everywhere were clearly triggered.
Some probably just wanted to show off their light sabre... Grown men with toys – amirite?
They used lights to create some atmosphere.
While the ‘challenge’ isn't much of a challenge, this did at least involve a modicum of skill.
As this tweet says, Wrong weapon but great shrug!
In unison! Rather cute
…Not to use the light sabre at all. Because a corn dog is better!
Bread is good too – that dog certainly seems interested.
Because cute kids with fruit are even better.
The light sabre isn't much use but a back scratcher – now there’s an invention worthy of the name.
A clarinet, not a light sabre used here.
Definitely! If someone makes me laugh, they're cool!
Yes it’s a cute cat, so yes it counts.
Sometimes the #BenSoloChallenge didn’t work out quite as intended. But whatever. This is only until someone dreams up the next silly internet challenge.
