‘Thappad Se Dar Nahi Lagta’ Jokes Resurface Here Are Some of the Best

There were a few things that were rather memorable about the Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha movie Dabangg: that strange belt dance move, some of Chulbul Pandey's more creative threats. Then there is the line from the poor potter girl Rajjo, thappad se dar nahi lagta saheb, pyaar se lagta hai. Brands sometimes use this to create a buzz around products. A Mumbai FM station did and more recently Oyo Rooms did:

Win a spa voucher

Thappad se dar nahi lagta saheb, ___________ se lagta hai. Be creative, they said.

Old notes

Some were clearly still feeling the trauma of demonetisation even years after the event.

This perennial problem

Traffic! Who doesn’t fear this – but then if you can drive on Indian roads in Indian traffic you can do this anywhere in the world.

Oyo started things off

Oyo Rooms also had their own promotion – they started things off with this. Not scared of a slap but of my boss’s typing.

This accusation

There were some allegations made about hidden cameras in rooms a while back even though these were unfounded. People still made Thappad Se Dar Nahi Lagta memes, however – because kuchh to log kahenge.

Some…

…Are scared of Mondays. It means getting up early, going to work, doing stuff we have to do instead of the stuff we want to do.

Or this

We all feel sort of cheated when a festival or Jayanti falls on a Sunday and we are deprived of an extra holiday.

Price rise

For some, it is the price rise that is a source of fear.

Lunch time?

Who is scared of lunch time! The poor sods who have to go to a public sector bank and find that everything grinds to a halt at lunch time after which they have no choice but to wait.

Parent/teacher

This is not unusual – we are taught to fear authority at an early age. And we see parents and teachers not as people to admire or have affection for, but as authority figures.

Mitron!

Our leader does not say ‘mitron’ anymore (not after getting trolled for this habit of his) but he still enjoys making sudden, heart-attack-inducing announcements. Shock and awe is still a preferred methodology.

“We need to talk”

This is always a loaded phrase – whether it is a boyfriend/girlfriend or boss.

Students right now

Offline exams are the bane of their existence – after two years of online classes, kids are being pulled out of their comfort zones and being asked to do their exams in person. So for students, Thappad se darr nahi lagta sahab, 'offline exams' se lagta hai
