Sushant Singh’s Last Film Dil Bechara - What Do the Reviews Say?

Sushant Singh Rajput was just 34 when he died in June 2020. Fans were looking forward to many memorable films from him, but his tragically short life meant that Dil Bechara would be his last film. The continuing closure of theatres and multiplexes meant that the film could not get a theatrical release; instead, it was released on the Disney Hotstar streaming platform. Dil Bechara received the highest ever viewership on release. This is what the film reviews say:

Emotional viewing

The trailer of the film itself had people in tears. The trailer broke several records and became the most liked trailer (it has over 10M likes).

Bitter-sweet

Fans and admirers of Sushant Singh Rajput were looking forward to the movie. However, watching the film after the loss made it a heartrending experience.

Emotional love story

Many of those who watched the film thought that it was a sweet but tragic romance; that the performances of Rajput as well as his costar Sanjana Sanghi made for compelling viewing.

Record breaking

The film is available free to view on Disney Hotstar even to non-subscribers. It broke many records soon after its release.

“Should have been here”

Viewers wish that Rajput were able to see the love that hie and his performance in the film are getting right now.

Celebs got emotional too

Other actors who have worked with Sushant Singh previously got emotional as well; they saw how much of himself he poured into the role he played in the film.

Fitting tribute

The film begins with a tribute to the late actor and its message of hope and positivity is resonates with viewers.

No rating /review

Many of the usual critics and reviewers have refrained from reviewing the film as a mark of respect for Sushant Singh (or probably because they knew of the kind of abuse they would face if the review was not positive).

The review

Those who did dare to review the film thought that this film did not do justice to the theme or to the film that it is a remake of (Fault in Our Stars). Though Rajput’s performance is excellent, the writing, direction and pace of the film fall short says this review. Even though the review praises Rajput's performance in the film, the reviewer was subject to a lot of hate and abuse for her review

Hoping for a theatrical release

Many hope to watch not only Dil Bechara in theatres when they reopen, but other excellent but underrated films of Sushant Singh Rajput such as Detective Byomkesh Bakshi and Sonchiriya.

Dil Bechara trailer
