They seem to have officially run out of ideas for new types of sports and contests. If you thought ostrich racing, underwater hockey, chess boxing (huh?), zorbing, shovel racing were weird, here is a new spectator sport – slap fighting. YouTuber Logan Paul & Arnold Schwarzenegger are involved. Take a look:
Men slap each other standing across from a sort of table – proper roundhouse slaps that would make one see stars (presumably). And that guy looking amazed is Logan Paul --- host of the competition and a professional boxer apart from being a hugely famous YouTuber. A one-hour twenty-minute long live stream relayed the competition to viewers and the video now has upward of 3 million views. This was the premiere of the Slap Fighting Championship.
Women slap too – only they have to do it wearing skimpy tank tops and tiny little skirts.
Schwarzenegger was there to lend weight (pun unintended) to the event along with many others.
Maybe not
The guy has a very been-there-done-that look on his face.
This is yet another new way to watch people hitting people and it is a bonus if you get to watch someone knocking someone out – as in this case.
And this – apparently the participants are all good friends.
It is basically the gladiators in the circus of ancient Rome all over again. What was entertainment then still passes off as entertainment; only now it’s with mouthguards – fewer bloody teeth being spat out now, presumably.
All those big beefy guys slapping each other – it made me wince.

A lot of people were wondering how this even remotely qualifies as a sport. They were like WTF! What skill or strategy – apart from brute strength – is required here? A hit like this on the side of the head could easily damage the eardrum and even cause brain injury pointed out people. Apart from all else, I think this is mind-numbingly boring – Slap Fighting Championships? No thanks.
