Singing, Dancing, Playing the Mandolin in Times of COVID

By now, most of us have lost someone we knew, someone close to us or a loved one to the brutal second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The virulence, extremely infectious nature of this variant of the virus and the way it has attacked the younger people of the population has left no one unscathed. There are stories of hope and stories of despair here; stories of each person dealing with the crisis in their own way.

This heartrending story

A few days ago, Dr Dipshikha Ghosh tweeted this story about a son who sang an emotional song for his dying mother.

It went viral

The mother passed away, sadly. After asking permission of the people involved, the doctor spoke about this.

This song

The son, Soham Chatterjee responded by recording the poignant song in his own voice – mera tujhse hai pehele ka nata koi – in memory of his mother.

This mandolin rendition

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police tweeted this from their official handle: Constable Rahul Khosla, ITBP presents the tune for Corona Warriors on Mandolin.

‘Dil diya hai, jaan bhi denge’

This song from Karma is a classic. It applies to all the COVID warriors out there who are literally putting their lives on the line to save us all.

This upbeat performance

Though doctors see a lot of loss and despair each day, they find ways to keep up their spirits – they have to! Now the film Radhe may not have a lot to recommend it, but the song seeti maar from the movie seems to be a saving grace – for some of us.

This dancing doctor

Doctors dancing may be unusual – but we are living in some very unusual times right now. Each of us are trying to find comfort and joy wherever we can.
