The education mafia is a powerful force in parts of India. Leaked papers, proxies answering instead of the real candidate, ‘fixed’ exams and answer paper checking… there is a lot more that goes on. Setters starring Shreyas Talpade, Aftab Shivdasani, Sonnalli Seygall, Vijay Raaz, Pavan Malhotra seems to revolve around this.
The movie trailer points to the various ways in which the education mafia scams the system in exchange for money from students and job aspirants. The story appears to be about the cat and mouse game where the cops are trying to pin down the ‘setters’ who do the ‘setting’ with the authorities and game the system.
People have liked the trailer in general and many look forward to watching the film when it releases on 3rd May 2019.
The actor who usually plays a bumbling fool in silly comedies or the vapid so-called ‘sex comedies’ has received appreciation for his role in Setters. Perhaps we shall once again get to see the sort of performance he has proved himself capable of in films such as Dor previously.
Former Miss India International Sonnalli Seygall appears to play the role of a tough cop in the film. Viewers are looking forward to seeing what she is capable of.
This tweet points out the problems that films such as these – with serious, storylines, sans the usual masala or A list stars – have trouble making money at the box office. Perhaps streaming platforms would be a better option?
Ashwini Chaudhary is the director as well as the screenplay writer (along with Vikash Mani) of the film. This appears to be a well-researched film that examines the various different ways in which people scam the system and blithely bypass its rules.
As this tweet points out, the Emraan Hashmi starrer Why Cheat India which released in January 2019 was on the theme and failed to make much of an impact. This movie also releases just a week after the big international release, Avengers Endgame which could also negatively impact its fortunes.
#Setters hashtag as well as other hashtags such as #ShreyasTalpade started to trend, indicating that the movie trailer has stirred interest and anticipation among viewers.
