Robert Pattison – he of the sepulchral skin tone & expression, of the Twilight Series fame – is going to be Batman, which is earth-shaking news for some. Pattison will star in the very originally titled The Batman a 2021 film that revealed its first look recently. For every one that went eh, meh about the nearly one minute clip, there were many who were significantly more enthused. Pattison's jawline apparently is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
Writer, director, producer Matt Reeves tweeted this short video. All dark and red and full of menace and foreboding; prompting a very wide range of very emotional reactions.
So he was a vampire, now he’ll be a bat.
That ominous-sounding theme music is made to lodge itself firmly inside the head, I’ll grant you.
A lot of the Twitterati was generally losing their s**t over the new Batman and the highly stylised first look; particularly the suit with the symbolic gun inserts.
Here Aquaman, another character from the DC Universe expresses the view of many others.
Pattison’s jawline attracted excitement and disapproval. Apparently the mask is meant to cover more of batman’s jaw. On the other hand its Pattison’s jaw.
It’s a new Batman film – for some, this is epoch making.
Val Kilmer had the most recognisable lips. Ben Affleck had that cleft chin. Pattison has that very distinctive sharp jaw. So, all the batmen are pretty recognisable, regardless. This has always troubled me: what really is the point of the mask.
The previous Batman was the hunky Ben Affleck. Some were rather less impressed with the slender and finely chiselled Pattinson.
Fans of batman seem to have a very definite view of what the character should look like: like Ben Affleck.
This guy dreamed up Battison.
…Then they remembered how much they loved Batman.
Twitter also saw some of the rivalry, or rather the mutual contempt that Marvel and DC fans have for each other.
This guy was clearly feeling the romance on Valentine’s Day.
(Full disclosure: I had to look up Arkham.) This refers to Arkham Asylum, Gotham City’s psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. Over time this featured in some of the Batman comics.
The Batman starring Robert Pattison is slated for release on 25 June 2021. The real fans are counting down the days – like literally.
