Netflix Most Watched Shows of All Time – Ideas for Binge-Watching

One of the things I often think to myself is - how bad would the various stages of lockdown have been, had it not been for OTT platforms offering us a dizzying array of entertainment on demand. Platforms like Netflix  not only kept us entertained, they informed us too. If you are someone that enjoys Netflix, here are some of the top, most watched Netflix shows of all time:

Squid Game

This is a recent show but it quickly climbed to the top of viewer popularity. The survival drama struck a chord with viewers not just for the tense storytelling about playing deadly versions of kids games, but also because of themes of class disparity and so on. Squid Game was watched in more than 142 million households --- abut 1.65 billion viewing hours.

Bridgerton

Until Squid Game, this show ruled the roost – this is basically an extended raunchy 'historical' romance with some interesting racial diversity. Bridgerton is peopled with good looking people, and the familiar tropes of the virginal heroine and the reformed rake, society gossips and so on.

Money Heist, Part 4 (2020)

The intrepid band of thieves carries on their way pulling off daring heists and evading capture by virtue of the most complicated of escapes and maneuvering. Money Heist has been a remarkable phenomenon – millions including Indians watching rapt at the interesting characters; many choosing to watch in the original Spanish with English subtitles.

Stranger Things 3 (2019)

The sci-fi horror drama series has seen three seasons with the third garnering the most views. Stranger Things is the story about a creatures from the Upside Down dimension and the characters of a town called Hawkins dealing with all sorts of strange occurrences, set in the 1980s . in the third season, a soviet lab below a mall opens the gateway to the Upside Down dimension, and there are new horrors for the town to deal with.

The Witcher, Season 1 (2019)

This is a fantasy series based on a book series. The Witcher is about a fictional medieval place known as the Continent and is the story about Geralt of Rivia a monster hunter and Princess Ciri separately and then together.

13 Reasons Why, Season 2 (2018) & Season 1 (2017)

The teen drama revolves around the aftermath of the suicide of Hannah Baker who recorded and left behind a series of tapes in which she spoke about the reasons why she chose to end her life. Though the second season of 13 Reasons Why received mixed reviews from critics, it is more viewed than the first season.

Maid (2021)

The limited drama series follows the story of a single mother who gets out of an abusive relationship and struggles to look after her little daughter by working as a maid. Maid is about abusive relationships, social assistance, dysfunctional families and other social realities.

You, Season 3 (2021) and Season 2 (2019)

I started to watch this series before I realised that this is one of those twisted stories about a guy who looks normal and learned on the face of it, but is actually a sick psychopathic serial killer.  So I abandoned You after the first episode, pretty much, but evidently many, many others dig that sort of thing. And they dug season three the most – go watch if you dare. I didn’t.
