Milind Soman – Reinventing Himself and Inspiring Others

For those growing up in the 1990s he was a heart throb. Milind Soman was one of India's best known male models ever. His perfectly chiseled face and tall lean muscled frame set a million hearts a flutter in his time. Today, he inspires women in an altogether different way; though he continues to make pulses race too!

He was born in Scotland but returned to India at the age of 7. He was a national level swimmer before he became a model.

He was a supermodel

He was then seen on the ramp, in print ads, billboards and TV as a model and later as an actor. In a country not known for its male supermodels, his was a famous face. He also starred in the wildly popular Alisha Chinoy music video Made in India.

The saga of Milind and Miss India

Milind Soman was in a relationship with then Miss India Madhu Sapre, with whom he had done a very controversial commercial. He also later married his French co-star Mylene Jamponi; however the two divorced after a few years of marriage. In spite of setbacks in personal relationships, he continued to reinvent himself.

He did films and TV

Over the years he was part of many TV shows such as A Mouthful of Sky, Sea Hawks and Captain Vyom and movies; both mainstream and offbeat.

We saw him recently in Bajirao Mastani as well. Here he rocked the bald look quite effortlessly.  

He embraced grey

He is going to turn 52 this year and he has no qualms about letting people know about it. Why would he! When someone looks this good in grey!

Milind Soman – Reinvented as the fitness freak

Through the various phases of his life and various avatars he has remained committed to his fitness and has always remained in amazing shape by running, swimming and other activities. He is even in the Limca Book of Records for running 1,500 km in 30 days. He also completed the Ironman challenge on the first attempt.

Milind – making a difference

He has participated in Greenathons (to raise awareness about the environment). He was also the ambassador for the Pinkathon, India’s biggest women only marathon.

How he is an inspiration

He continues to participate in various marathons all over (including the Barefoot marathon and other Pinkathons) and inspires thousands of men and women to get up and get moving.

He leads marathons, takes selfies with besotted women and gets more and more poeple to embrace fitness!
