In 2009, Imtiaz Ali made Love Aaj Kal starring Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan. Now he has made Love Aaj Kal again in 2020. Having loved the first version of the film as well as other Imtiaz Ali films such as Highway, Jab We Met, Rockstar, Tamasha, this is interesting for me. The trailer released on 17 January and the movie releases on 14 February 2020. The Love Aaj Kal 2020 trailer indicates a similar movie with parallel love story tracks based in the present and the past.
The movie stars Kartik Aryan, Sara Ali Khan, Arushi Sharma, Randeep Hooda. There seem to be two parallel stories with Aryan as a hero in both. The trailer indicates that the modern track is about Zoe (Sara Ali Khan) unwilling to compromise her career for love and features songs from the first movie. The parallel track is set in 1990 as the poster of the film reveals.
The trailer received criticism because stories of both films appear to be similar.
Both movies have the exact same name and even the songs are the same.
Fans of the 2009 film were disappointed. They felt that one shouldn’t try to fix something that was perfectly fine.
Is Imtiaz Ali running out of ideas, asked the tweeple?
His daughter is acting in the new film, so obviously he wishes it well. However he likes the original better, he was quoted as having said.
This line from Zoe lends itself to many situations.
They bother us
…When the course is to be completed and time is short.
The past love story track features a clean shaven Aryan with earrings; saying this.
There is always tea – even when everyone else has left.
This does sound like copy for an insurance ad.
In the trailer, Veer wants all of her --- full… as this person evidently wants their bladder to be on cold winter nights.
This is always a much reduced amount, because income tax!
One is trying to sleep but the brain has other ideas.
And young boys cannot decide whether or not they need to shave.
Fluctuating phone signals trouble us all! The Love Aaj Kal trailer may have disappointed some, but it is still trending at #1 on YouTube right now. Many are looking forward to seeing what’s on offer when the movie releases on 14 February 2020.
