American rapper and comic David Andrew Burd got together 30 stars to create an animated environmental music video. The video featuring people like Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, and also Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg and Miley Cyrus has gone viral on social media; with well over 10 million YouTube views.
The video is meant to raise awareness and money for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which works on environmental issues. All proceeds go towards implementing climate change solutions.
Some of us would be instantly reminded of We are the World, the 1985 single created by Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Lionel Ritchie with 37 contributing artists for African famine release. This is similar, though Lil Dicky is not someone who would come to mind when we think of a climate change crusader.
Apart from Lil Dicky, the song features vocals by Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Zac Brown, Brendon Urie, Hailee Steinfeld, Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Kevin Hart, Adam Levine, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, SIA, Miley Cyrus, Lil Jon, Rita Ora, Miguel, Katy Perry, Lil Yachty, Ed Sheeran, Meghan Trainor, Joel Embiid, Tory Lanez, John Legend, Backstreet Boys, Bad Bunny, Psy, Kris Wu and choir vocals by: Denise Janae, Naari Michele, Tiffany Palmer, Onitsha Shaw, George Potts, Mark Hood.
The song is funny and irreverent and quite NSFW (featuring quite a few swear words and other unmentionables) and also features an animated Lil Dicky with an animated Leo DiCaprio having a bit of a chat in the end.
The song is about something that should matter to all of us.
In spite of the climate change deniers there are thankfully many who realise the gravity of the situation and are trying to do something to reverse or at least limit the damage.
