Positive responses

The high octane performances, the battle scenes, the drama have invited positive reponses. People seem to be looking forward to yet another rousing performance from Akshay Kumar.

Based on a true story

Something of a rebel, Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) is posted to this small fort and put in charge of 20 unruly Sikh soldiers. This small band of 21 then has to confront a ten thousand strong Afghan army at the gates. This is that story.

A typical Akshay Kumar film?

In the recent past, Akshay Kumar has given us thought provoking films such as Padman and Toilet – Ek PremKatha .  however, he is still very much the action hero. This tweet seems to suggest as much.

The dialogue

The trailer indicates powerful, dramatic dialogues that promise to be full of nationalistic fervor, and bravery and sacrifice.

The handpump moment

As this twitterer points out, Bollywood has certain pet tropes and images that are routinely trotted out to indicate bravery, passion and so on. One wonders is Kesari will be more of the same.

Chal jhootha

This one phrase spoken by Kumar has delighted the meme makers.

Because exams!

Those currently doing their exams or preparing for them, will identify with this one.

The disbelieving dad

Chal jootha is rather a versatile phrase; easily lending itself to various interpretations and situations.

Ten thousand

There are ten thousand men outside, Kumar's character says at one point in the film. This seemed to trigger a lot of bad memories for some.

The Mumbai commute

To anyone has had the courage to be Dadar local station during peak hours on a weekday, this makes a lot of sense.

Society uncle

Society uncle (or aunt) usually does the job of local newspaper and chief gossip rolled into one. That uncle or aunt would be the one person you do not want knowing your secrets because they will then announce that secret to the accompaniment of drums and cymbals. Meanwhile, the movie releases on 21st March 2019; and many have predicted a big Holi opening for Kesari.
