A strange hashtag has been trending on Twitter - #jcbkikhudayi – which didn’t seem to make much sense to me. It looked like a bunch of gibberish letters strung together, but this is actually translates to JCB ki khudayi – the digging of JCB. So this is what it’s all about:
I saw this seemingly inexplicable hashtag on Twitter and it literally made me (and many others, no doubt) scratch my head.
Apparently it is fascinating to watch a JCB, an excavator in the process of digging. Also, apparently, many Indians have the time to actually stand and stare; also to ‘dig up’ and watch JCB ki khudai videos.
A lot of people speculated upon the reason behind the Twitter trend – whether it was this tweet about a ‘career change’ that inspired people.
As this Twitter user commented, there is some digging work going on just outside his house. Other tweeple were invited to come and watch the digging. Why? No idea.
By all accounts, excavators digging is a fascinating phenomenon.
Work can be repetitive and boring and tiring. Watching someone else work is so much more fun!
Many of us have probably seen throngs of people by the side of the road, avidly watching an excavator doing its thing. Why? Because why not!
Apparently watching the digging process is fun, fun, fun! They clearly seem to be having a good time.
Question - “Kaisi ho?” Reply - “JCB hoon theek hoon”. Get it?
Café Coffee Day isn’t cheap and Starbucks is positively expensive. Watching an excavator dig… priceless – also free!
Commentators soon started to share various different images and memes using the hashtag.
It’s hard work driving and controlling an excavator; not a job to be sneezed at.
Who can tell whether this is real or photo-shopped! But it seems like yet another clever jugaad solution using an excavator.
At the time of writing, lots of people are still commenting with the #JCBkiKhudai hashtag. It is strange that an excavator continues to fascinate so many – but it is also a bit of a relief; a change from the charged political atmosphere that gripped social media for so long.
