There is one view that decries observances such as Father's Day as an invention of product manufacturers and clever marketers. It is a valid view; after all expressions of love and appreciation for a loved one need not be restricted to just one day of the year. But then there is a counterview: there is nothing wrong in being reminded to make an extra effort; in articulating that love from time to time. So, for instance, Father’s Day is a good idea – it reminds us to express the affection and appreciation that we feel but may not bother to express all the time; many celebrities subscribe to this view.
