GOT Won At the Emmys – Some Were Pleased, Some Not So Much

The recently concluded Emmys had some surprises to deliver but many of the awards went the way that people expected. Now that Game of Thrones is over, there were many who expected the series to win the Emmy for the best drama series (like last year). However, all those fans who simply hated the last season of GOT were not best pleased.

Best drama series

What is more widely watched, bigger, more spectacular and more audacious than GOT? Probably no other show. So it is perhaps fitting the series won the Emmy for the best drama series yet again.

More or less?

While some thought that the series didn’t deserve to win, others thought that the series deserved to win more awards than it actually did. Some thought that the actors and technicians deserved awards but not the writers.

The tweeple noticed

They noticed that Bran the King was not on stage with the rest. Someone facetiously suggested that this is because Bran (the character) is handicapped and cannot walk.

Because of this?

Some suggested that a lot of other characters were more important to the story. Another commentator pointed out that cast on stage were all this year's Emmy nominees.

Robbed!

While some thought that GoT got more than it deserved, others thought that many of the actors of the series deserved to win and didn’t.

The most difficult roles

Arguably, Brienne of Tarth played by Gwendoline Christie and Theon Greyjoy played by Alfie Allen were two of the most difficult and complex roles of the series. While both were nominated, they did not win. Many felt that these two actors deserved far more credit than they got.

Deserved better

Many thought that Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys and Lena Headey who plays Cercei deserved to have better ends in the series --- and better recognition for their work as well.

Many were just not pleased

They remembered the series finale – which many had felt terribly let down by – they thought GOT didn’t deserve it.

Other awards won

Peter Dinklage won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for his role in GOT. The series had been nominated for 8 other Emmy drama categories. The final series had a record number of 32 nominations in all.

Then and now

This throwback picture of when several of the cast members were literally kids was deemed precious.

Adorable!

People thought this was adorable. Others could see only the very vast height differences in the image.

In other news

Saturday Night Live once again won the Emmy for the best Variety Sketch Series. Some were more impressed that others.

Grabbing eyeballs

For his role in Pose, Billy Porter won an Emmy for the best actor in a lead role.
