This time last year I was thinking I would be doing very different stuff this year. Yet now in May 2021, I am doing pretty much exactly what I was doing last year – only it is much worse this year. If you're doing something to help people around, continue the good work. And then take some time off to make yourself feel better with some of this stuff streaming right now:
It’s not a hugely originally concept – a guy in a gorilla suit – is not a new idea by any means, but the trailer looks funny. Starring Jackie Shroff, Aadar Jain, Shhloka Pandit and Rajpal Yadav it starts with a plane crash and a missing gorilla followed by lots of madness. The movie is available on Amazon Prime Video as on April 2021. It doesn’t have too many good reviews, but this may be just the trick if you're looking for some mindless nonsense this weekend.
The comedy sci-fi animation movie is about the common or garden dysfunctional family with each member immersed in their respective electronic devices. So much so, that they don’t quite notice that the world is about to end. The crazy family then has to take a road trip and is thrust willy-nilly into the job of saving the world from a robot uprising. This released on Netflix on 30 April and has received positive reviews – recommended fare for family viewing on a Saturday night home.
What is better than a heart-warming, feel-good film? A heart-warming, feel-good film with a Golden Retriever dog in it! And this is that film. Starring Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried and Kevin Costner as Enzo the dog’s voice, this is a movie about racing and love and life and a few more clichés, but who cares – there’s that dog. The movie is available on Disney Hotstar right now.
This is a Telugu satirical film that is about zombies but also about the coronavirus. The horror-comedy genre draws on several strands such as the pandemic, the Rayalaseema faction issue. The trailer looks most promising – funny, crazy, frenetic and full of pop culture references if one understands them. The movie starring Sajja Teja and Anandhi and others is described as a little predictable but highly watchable nonetheless. The film is available on www.aha.video streaming platform.
This is an Amazon Prime original show, hosted by Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi --- and appears to be something like a Bigg Boss for funny people. The show features Cyrus Broacha, Aditi Mittal, Mallika Dua, Aadar Malik, Sunil Grover, Aakash Gupta and others – so some comedy heavyweights there! The aim is for each participant to make others laugh without laughing themselves because this will get them eliminated. Funny enough premise – if this is something that appeals, there are six episodes to keep you smiling/ laughing/ distracted from your problems. Go stream.
