If you had to encapsulate this entire year of 2017 in just 5 words, how would you do it? What did the year mean to you? What were the highlights of the year for you? Were there triumphs and milestones achieved, or did you witness setbacks? Well #2017In5Words was trending on Twitter; and people had all sorts of things to share:
This one pithily describes the main deadline hoggers of the year – Yogi Adityanath, GST launch, Padmavati, the Virat–Anushka nuptials and the Bitcoin crash!
Messages from the bank, SMS messages from the phone companies, everywhere one went, one was reminded that they had to link their Aadhaar Card to this, that and the other.
Himself a major trend and meme generator, Shashi Tharoor and his propensity for using difficult words in his tweets, was bound to find mention!
This was the year that Harvey Weinstein and many others in Hollywood were unmasked for being the sexual predators that they are. It also started a much-needed conversation around sexual abuse in Bollywood.
Clearly, there were those who had no life. At all. In 2017. Memes, YouTube, Web-series, Comedy(specials), Twitter is not a life – it’s just a little sad.
“That did not go well”, said another tweet. “2017 is a walking nightmare” tweeted another despondent soul. “Every day felt like Monday,” said another unhappy soul. Trump haters, in particular, hated 2017 and expressed the keen desire to see him impeached.
…Are evidently terminally optimistic; if not actually delusional.
For most of us, this year was a mix of the good and the not-so-good; a case of kabhi khushi, kabhi gham.
Now I may well question his taste in movies apart from Dangal and Baahubali, but to each his own, I suppose.
By which of course, he means governance. This tweet is also clearly a reference to the proliferation of violence in the name of the cow and some communities… which became a significant issue in 2017.
