In preparation for the Chinese New Year which will be observed on 5 February, all of UAE; Dubai and Abu Dhabi, in particular, are gearing up for this. This isn’t just for the Chinese expats living and working here, but also for all other UAE residents looking to celebrate and enjoy yet another event with friends and family.
The legendary mall will be decked up to reflect the China Art theme for the New Year and will showcase live performances and also conduct traditional games and art & craft workshops. The Star Atrium will feature a huge festive pagoda with activities such as knot tying, umbrella paining, egg carving, calligraphy, wood carving and more.
Shoppers who spend more than AED 150 will receive customised keepsakes. Characters from Chinese folk stories will be seen in the mall and a red wishing tree will mark the area where visitors can play traditional Chinese games.
In the Dubai mall is the Dubai aquarium, which will feature a special dragon performance from the 4th to the 20th of February. Aquarium divers will add this special performance for visitors in the festive spirit.
Some of the recommended places to eat to celebrate the new year are Cho Gao at the Crowne Plaza, Abu Dhabi, the Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel Dubai, Frangipani at Zaya Nurai Island, Li Jiang at the Ritz Carlton, Stratos at Le Meridien and others. There are authentic Chinese treats on offer, special buffets and set meals on offer.
This is another place to celebrate the Chinese new year. There will be live performances put up as well as workshops and activities for visitors to enjoy such as face painting, dragon art and drum making. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacular fireworks at 9 PM on 1st February.
From 1st to 20th February, this venue will feature a special interactive Bugs Bunny and pals show, festive décor and plenty of photo ops. Visitors can also enjoy special Chinese treats including traditional desserts.
#WOWJBR at the Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai will feature the performance of Bian Lian, who will engage with the audience, Chinese cultural events as well as LED lion installations.
Riverland Dubai at Dubai Parks and Resorts is another place to head to around Chinese new year, if you want to celebrate. Not only will the place feature Chinese décor it will also have live entertainment for families, a tea ceremony and events such as Couplet Pasting which is meant to convey good wishes for the new year to others. There will also be a fireworks display here.
