Don’t You Hate It When.....Irritating Situations You’ll Identify With

The word chagrin is wonderful – it means disappointment, regret, irritation but also a certain wistfulness. It is about the feeling of something that could have been, but stopped short of being just right.  Here are some of the little irritations that could make life so much better --- by their absence! Don’t you hate it when:

They leave the door open

I hate it when they leave doors open. In real life or in movies, room doors, fridge doors, cupboards, cabinets, drawers… especially fridge doors and doors of rooms with the A/c on.

Ouch, ouch, ouch!

There’s something on the floor just lying in wait for your bare feet. Something sharp and painful… like a Lego block.

Sorry, out of stock

It’s awful when it happens, either in stores or online. You know exactly what you want, you decide that the price is right and then you find it’s out of stock! Or worse, they don’t have it in your size or colour!

Someone ate your chocolate

You were saving it up. When you reach into the fridge for it; it’s gone! Someone in the family ate it assuming you didn’t want it!

When the water runs cold

On a cold day, you're really enjoying that lovely hot shower and you find the water starting to run cold because someone used up too much hot water before you! I know that is the girl in Psycho just before she’s murdered... slightly different from the water running cold, but you know what I mean.

Tangled headphones

You're ready for your jog/bike ride/walk. You’ve even picked out the playlist. But your earphones look like this. Now you have to waste 10 minutes.

You hear the clock ticking

The clock has been there forever. But the one day you're finding it difficult to sleep is the day you discover that this clock makes a lot of noise and now it’s too loud to sleep!

When it’s the text/call from the wrong person

You're waiting for that special someone to confirm a date or the client to confirm a big order. You're happy when your phone beeps, but it’s only the idiot calling to offer you another useless credit card or the semi-senile aunt sending you the cute cat video for the fifth time.

When you finally find parking…

Only to find that there is a tiny car parked there already. Or you find that the parking space is so small that you have to do this.

When this happens

Don’t you hate it when you just come out of the hair salon and it’s really windy? Don’t you hate it when you have to choose between sitting comfortably in the direct draft of the fan with your hair going all over the place or quietly sweltering?

Don’t you hate when all of this happens? And then don’t you love it when you get some perspective and find that absolutely none of those things are the least bit important; that in the scheme of things, they do not matter in the slightest? That life is, in fact really good!
